Acting It Out

I’m one of those people that believe that love is an action word.  I believe that love is something that’s acted out, rather than just said.  It’s a bit like jumping. You can’t just tell someone “Hey, look, I’m jumping “, if you aren’t actually moving your body upwards and springing into the air.

But I just recently learned this. I used to believe that love was indeed just a strong feeling of deep affection, as some dictionaries put in it. I mean, that definition is just perfect when relating to inanimate objects, but to other people? I don’t think so.

Everyday, soldiers lose their lives on battlefields, fighting for a country that they love. Now, I believe that’s love in action. Not dying per se, but sacrificing.

I think that loving requires at least a tiny bit of sacrifice. It doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary. For instance, if someone told you, in the most beautiful way, how much they loved you; but yet that same person won’t sacrifice just 10 minutes of their time to help you with something, would you believe the person? I certainly wouldn’t.

How can you love me,  if I’m not worth ten minutes of your time?

I’m not trying to redefine love. God knows I can’t. Even though my name, ‘Ima ‘ means love 😁. It’s just that a lot of the time, people say the words, “I love you “ so much, that they forget what they mean. I’m guilty of that too. And honestly, I believe that most of the time, we believe that we actually do.

I’ve been trying to love the right way. With actions. I’m still going to tell people that I love them, but I’ll make  sure it’s backed up with actions.

Like giving someone my seat even if it means I’ll have to stand or get another seat from elsewhere. Like taking the time to make dinner for my mom when she comes back from work,  even though I’m tired from school. Or being more patient with my best friend, especially when she’s really getting on my nerves.

I’ve realised that there are actually so many ways to love people. It’s all in the actions. Let’s not hesitate  to act out our love.

There’s an entire chapter in the Bible, talking about love. It’s in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13, and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve read. I’ll love to end this post with an excerpt from that chapter.

Love  is patient and kind.

Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud.

Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily.

Love does not remember wrongs done against it.

Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth.

Love never gives up on people.

It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits.

 Love will never end.😇

XOXO,

Ima 💕 ♥
